In August 2013 Akakū welcomed itʻs most recent employee, Chris Dack, to the Akakū Production team.

Chris Dack was born and raised in California and moved to Maui at the age of 15. He first heard of Akakū through his dad, who works for the Maui County Planning Department. Chris began interning at Akakū in the summer of 2008 after graduating from Maui High School, where he assisted with the live coverage of the 2008 Primary Elections.

After catching the video-production bug Chris continued to give of his time through volunteer opportunities at Akakū.

"I enjoy working with the people and learning how to work the camera and video equipment. Their live shows have always been enjoyable," says Dack.

He has since been hired to join the Production team and has, so far, produced and edited several promotion spots to run on air, assisted with Open Mic tapings and has helped cover Maui County Council meetings. He hopes to gain a better knowledge of how things run (video equipment, etc.) and also hopes to continue to help create things that interests many people.

When asked what he envisions for the future of Akakū and his role here he replied:

"I see myself as a respected editor and videograper who is best known for concise and enjoyable works. [Also,] I would hope that Akakū remains one of Hawaiiʻs champions of free speech, and that everyone has a voice for decades to come."
